your power using the smaller diameter cord is easier to handle, route around stuff and hide. We make our extension cords using 24 AWG zip wire with 3.5 amp capacity using six different jack and plugs to fit most AC adapters using a barrel style connector.

How do I know if I have a 2.1mm or a 2.5mm connector on the end of my adapter? - If you have a headset for your cellular phone or cordless, most use a 2.5mm round jack ( the exception is some BlackBerry models have started to use 3.5mm which is the same size jack on iPods ). With the ac adapter unplugged try to insert the headset jack into the power adapter connector:

if it does not go in you most likely have a 2.1mm jack on your adapter

if it does go in, you most likely have a 2.5mm jack on your adapter
