Using Your Own Power Adapter to Supply 12 Volt DC Power to the # 748 SMD 12 White LED Extendable Light Strips

AC Adapter 12 Volts DC Question:

Can I use one of many AC adapters I have in a box full of
junk to power the LED light Strip? ( Good Junk that is )

Answer:

See Next Panels Below
You can use an old ac adapter if the label on the
back is printed with this information:

OUTPUT VOLTAGE: 12 v OR 12 Volts DC

MA: can have 200 ma or mah up to 1500

As you add LED strips you will need more Mah from the adapter to power the LED's.  Example:

1 to 2  LED Strips will need 200 Mah
3 LED Strips - 340 Mah
4 LED Strips - 450 Mah
5 LED Strips - 560 Mah
6 LED Strips - 620 Mah

Above the words " MADE IN CHINA " on the picture to
the left is a diagram.  You have a  " C " or an almost half
circle with a line going to a negative symbol in a circle,
and a dot with a line to a positive symbol in a circle.  This
indicates a positive tip plug on the other end of the cord.
You need a adapter with a positive tip.

2.1mm Plug Connector

AC Adapter 12 Volts DC

12 Volt DC Power Supply with
 2.1mm End for LED Lights

#51 300 Mah $9.00
#47 500 Mah $12.00
#46 1000 Mah $18.00

You will need a 2.1mm plug at the other end of the cord on
the ac adapter.  Like the one in the picture to the left, the
center chrome piece on the plug is positive and the barrel
is negative ( positive tip ).  If they made one size of plug,
this would be easy, most of this style are 2.1mm, but
there are 2.5mm and a few others.  0.4 mm difference is
not something I have figured out how to show on a web
site.  Then I have found some plugs are not true 2.1mm
inside diameter and fail to transfer power though the
connection.

If you have a headset for your cellular phone or cordless, most
use a 2.5mm round jack ( the exception is some BlackBerry
models have started to use 3.5mm which is the same size
jack on iPods ).  With the ac adapter Unplugged try to
insert the jack into the adapter connector:

If it does not go in you most likely have a 2.1mm jack
on your adapter.

If it does go in, you most likely have a 2.5mm jack
on your adapter.

Bottom line:

You can try your own power adapters using the
above as a guide line.  If they don't work, pick one up at
a local Radio Shack or The Source store or we can supply
you with the right one.
